ISTQB® CTFL
The retirement date (sunset date) for the CTFL v3.1 syllabus in English was 9th May 2024 and hence v3.1 exams (including retakes) and accredited training courses in English retired also.
Please take a look at the latest release of the Foundation Level syllabus, CTFL v4.0, which can be downloaded here.
Note: CTFL v3.1 in other languages is not retired until 9th November 2024.
Please refer to Chapter 10 – Appendix C (Release Notes, page 70) of the CTFL v4.0 syllabus for an overview of the differences.

Please contact your local Member Board or Exam Provider for more information if you had purchased a v3.1 exam (ISTQB® cannot help with queries in exam purchases or exam fees) or contact your training provider.
Retakes are not allowed after the sunset dates:
- For English exams – 9th May 2024
- For non-English exams – 9th November 2024

All Foundation Level certificates based on previous Certified Tester Foundation Level releases remain valid.

The Certified Tester Foundation Level qualification is suitable for anyone who is involved, as well as interested, in software testing. This includes people in roles such as testers, test analysts, test engineers, test consultants, test managers, user acceptance testers, and software developers. This Foundation Level qualification is also appropriate for anyone who wants a basic understanding of software testing, such as project managers, quality managers, software development managers, business analysts, IT directors, and management consultants.
