ISTQB® strengthens the activities on Product Definition

The ISTQB® institutionalizes a Product Development Steering Committee (PDSC) aimed at defining the roadmap for the ISTQB® overall Product Architecture roadmap (Syllabi and their relationships) as well as its deployment plan; the PDSC will gather together the ISTQB® Executives, the Chairs of the Working Groups working on Glossary and Syllabi, as well as Marketing and Exam WG Chairs; ISTQB® expects that this will lead to an optimized evolution of syllabi and other ISTQB® key deliverables in accordance with market needs.

ISTQB® refines the definition of its Core Values

The ISTQB® General Assembly in Shanghai approves an enhanced definition of the ISTQB® Core Values, that are summarized as follows: Professionalism; Knowledge sharing; Continuous learning; Openness; Non-profit independency; Integrity; Active member boards; Consistency; International presence.

ISTQB® details its “Mission” Statement

The ISTQB® General Assembly in Shanghai approves a more focused definition of the ISTQB® Mission, consisting of 10 activities that can be read in details on the ISTQB® Web Site.

ISTQB® enhances the definition of its “Vision”

The ISTQB® General Assembly in Shanghai approves an enhanced definition of the ISTQB® Vision: "To continually improve and advance the software testing profession by defining and maintaining a Body of Knowledge which allows testers to be certified, based on best practices, connecting the international software testing community, and encouraging research".

ISTQB® strengthens its presence in Social Networks.

Following the increasing demand by the Testing Community to interact with and discuss on ISTQB® related topics, ISTQB® strengthens its presence on some of the most used Social Networks and Communication Channels world-wide, including: Facebook, Linkedin, XING, YouTube, SlideShare and Twitter. By joining them, you will be able to receive official updates from ISTQB®, interact directly with ISTQB® officers and members, contribute to further development of the ISTQB® scheme and be informed about events and other news.

 

ISTQB® 10 Years Celebration

ISTQB® will celebrates its 10 Year Anniversary in 2012. In this period the "ISTQB® Certified Tester" scheme has become the de facto reference for certification of software testing professionals world-wide. ISTQB® would like to thank all the Certified Testers and the principal stakeholders of the scheme (Member Boards, Training Providers, Exam Providers, IT and user companies) for having contributed to such a remarkable result. Shaping the next version of the Advanced Level Syllabus

As part of the next release of the Advanced Level Syllabus (V2.0), the ISTQB® General Assembly has decided to reduce Technical Test Analyst training to 3 days and to organize Learning Objectives in a way by which it will not be mandatory to hold a TA certificate before sitting for a TTA certificate.

New Expert level syllabus “Test Management"

The number of ISTQB® certifications grows steadily

At the General Assembly held in Rome in June 2011, the ISTQB® President has reported the number of certifications as of date March 2011; the number of certifications keeps on growing at a fast pace in all countries, getting close to 180.000; on the basis of the current trends, more than 200.000 certificates will be issued by the end of 2011.

Certified Tester Expert Level Modules Overview

The CTEL (Certified Tester Expert Level) describes skills and knowledge representing mastery of a particular testing subject; the Expert Level Modules Overview provides a helicopter view about the Expert Level in general and on the three Expert Level modules on which ISTQB® is actively working: "Improving the Test Process", "Test Management" and "Test Automation".

CTFL (Certified Tester Foundation Level) Syllabus Edition 2011

ISTQB® announces the public availability of Foundation Level syllabus version 2011.

The updated version fixes a few inconsistencies and formatting issues; since the changes do not affect any Learning Objective, no re-accreditation of training material is required and no impact is foreseen in the exam structure; the CTFL Syllabus Edition 2011 is available in the Download area, accompanied by its Release Note.

Certified Tester Advanced Level (CTAL) Progresses

At the Prague Meeting, the Advanced Level Working Group has reported substantial improvements to the CTAL syllabus, in terms of both structure and contents; a new release is planned for the beginning of 2012.

New member Board – Tunisia

The ISTQB® General Assembly approves the application of a new Member Board – Tunisia, increasing the availability of ISTQB® exams in Africa; the number of National/ Regional Boards sums up to 48, covering countries that represent over 90% of the worldwide GDP. ISTQB® appoints new Chairs for the Audit Working Group

In order to ensure the consistency of the exams world-wide, ISTQB® has defined a comprehensive set of processes covering all the ISTQB® core activities (examination, accreditation, etc.); the Audit Working Group has the mandate to verify that all National Boards / Examination Provides/ Training Providers strictly adhere to the defined processes and rules.

ISTQB® elects the New Executive Committee

During the Prague General Assembly, the representatives of the National Boards have elected the new Executive Committee for 2011-2012. The President and Vice President have been confirmed in their roles; new persons have been appointed in the Treasurer and Secretary roles.

ISTQB® President: Yaron Tsubery, from the Israeli Testing Board

ISQTB® Vice-President: Chris Carter, from the Australia New Zealand Testing Board

ISTQB® Treasurer: Mitko Mitev, from the South East Europe Testing Board

ISTQB® Secretary: Eric Riou du Cosquer, from the French Testing Board

The new Executive Board will be heading the ISTQB® for the next two years.

ISTQB® defines the next General Assembly Meetings

ISTQB® constitution defines that the General Assembly (GA) has the power to enable the realization of the objectives and activities of the association; as such, it is the most important body of ISTQB®, ensuring the democratic and transparent approach that marks the ISTQB®. Next ISTQB® GA meetings are planned as follows:

  • June 2011: Rome, Italy
  • October 2011: Shanghai, China
  • March 2012: New Zealand
  • July 2012: Tallinn, Estonia

BCS withdraws ISEB Test Practitioner scheme in favor of ISTQB® Certified Tester Advanced level certification scheme

As a consequence of the Agreement signed in March 2010 between UKTB and ISEB, the ISEB Practitioner qualification scheme has been phased out and the two ISEB Practitioner exams (Test Management and Test Analysis) have been withdrawn from the 1st February 2011.

ISTQB® have defined a Grandfathering scheme between the ISEB Practitioner certificates and the ISTQB® Certified Tester Advanced Level certifications that is explained in details in the attached Mapping Document.

ISTQB® – Marketing Working Group - Update

The ISTQB® Marketing Working Group has a new Acting Chair, Dr. Gualtiero Bazzana, from the Italian Software Testing Qualifications Board and a new vice-chair, Dr. Patricia McQuaid, from the American Software Testing Qualifications Board. Gualtiero and Patricia will continue the work performed by the former Chair, Ms. Sharon Robson. The ISTQB® Executive Committee thanks Sharon for her contribution in the last years and wishes to Gualtiero and Patricia a fruitful co-operation on behalf of the ISTQB® members.

The goal of the Marketing Working Group is to perform market research, promote ISTQB® services to all relevant stakeholders (National / Regional Boards, Training Providers, Certified Testers, the Testing community at large) and advertise them.

Successful ISTQB® meeting in Tokyo – more than 155.000 certifications issued

The ISTQB® General Assembly meeting held in Tokyo, Japan, marked the continuing growth of the ISTQB® Certifications world-wide. ISTQB® President Yaron Tsubery announced that more than 155.000 certifications have been issued current to Q1 2010, confirming the ISTQB® as the de facto reference in the domain of certification of testing know-how. The General Assembly has made substantial advances in many domains, including: Advanced Syllabus, Expert Syllabi, Changes in Accreditation and Certification processes, Audit process, and more, thereby establishing a solid basis for further evolutions that will become public in 2011.

ISTQB® defines official logos for Certified Testers and Accredited Training Providers

The ISTQB® General Assembly approves the usage of logos for Certified Testers and Accredited Training Providers at world-wide level. The National Boards are entitled to issue such logos in accordance with the defined ISTQB® guidelines.

First ISTQB® Expert Level Syllabus released

ISTQB® is proud to announce the release and public availability of the first of a set of Expert Level Syllabi, focused on "Improving the Test Process". The syllabus is based on the knowledge of the many experts that contributed to it, and focuses on the following aspects:

  • The context of improvement (Deming cycle, IDEAL framework, Overview of improvement approaches, etc)
  • Model based improvement (CMMI ®, ISO/ IEC 15504, TPI ®, TMMi, STEP, CTP)

The new Foundation Level Syllabus (version 2010) has been released to the member Boards, and is publicly available through the ISTQB® Web Site and on various national board websites.

Successful ISTQB® meeting in Kuala Lumpur – 145.000 people certified

The ISTQB® General Assembly meeting in Kuala Lumpur, held in conjunction with the Softec 2010 conference, was a big success. ISTQB® president Yaron Tsubery announced that now 145.000 people are certified according to the ISTQB® scheme. This makes ISTQB® the most popular certification for Software Testers in the world. The ISTQB® is the global standard for Software Testing.

New ISTQB® Glossary Released

On the 15th of March 2010 the ISTQB® released to the member boards the updated Glossary (version 2.1). All member boards are to be aware of this release, and to notify the testing community in their area about the new Glossary.

 

What are the changes to the glossary?

All new terms and changes terms are listed in detail in the updated Glossary. However, most changes can be traced back to the list of keywords from the new expert level syllabus "Improving the Testing Process" (expected to be released autumn 2010), or the Advanced level syllabus. Regarding the Advanced level syllabus, terms are added that are being used in the Advanced syllabus but were not present in the Glossary, and also some inconsistencies have been solved between the Advanced level syllabus and the Glossary.

 

What do the changes mean to testers?

The new version of the Glossary will provide better support for those attending Advanced level courses and preparing for the Advanced level exams. The new Glossary also supports those who are involved in "Improving the Testing Process" with terms and standard definitions.

What do the changes mean to training providers?

Please ensure that the new Glossary is distributed to the participants when running an Advanced level course. No update of courseware is expected. However, it is strongly recommended for the lecturers to study the changes made, especially those that relate to the Advanced level syllabus.
