ISTQB® accelerates growth

ISTQB® - International Software Testing Qualifications Board, the most popular software testing certification authority in the world, release at the General Assembly held in Shanghai, China updated info about its footprint
As of June 2015 ISTQB® has delivered more than 560,000 exams in over 100 countries worldwide, with over 400,000 certificates issued.
Growth of certification has sped up as well – ISTQB® certified 14,5% more people comparing to previous year. Exams delivered in the “classic” modules grew 8.5% year-on-year, showing an important growth in the existing products, especially in the Advanced Level. Rest of the growth was contributed by worldwide rollout of Agile Tester Foundation Level exams.

ISTQB® issues Worldwide Software Testing Practices Report 2015-2016

The International Software Testing Qualifications Board, the most popular software testing certification authority in the world, released the results of a test practices survey carried out at world-wide level. The survey, with more than 3200 respondents from 89 countries, can be considered the largest in the world in the software testing domain.

“As a non-profit organization, with its mission of advancing the software testing profession, ISTQB® regularly conducts international online surveys to assess the trends in the software testing industry”, said Mr. Gualtiero Bazzana, ISTQB® President.

The survey covers several topics, ranging from organizational and budgetary aspects, to techniques/ processes/ tools, through to skills and competencies within software testing. We believe it provides useful information for all professionals involved in the testing market, as well as direction for further evolution of the ISTQB® scheme.

Some highlights of the survey are listed below:

  • Budgets assigned to testing are large and keep on growing
  • Agile based SDLCs are being adopted ahead of traditional ones
  • Segregation of duties has become a standard practice from an organizational point of view
  • Training and certification of competences are key factors in improving test skills
  • Test automation has become very widespread in the market
  • Performance, usability and security tests are gaining traction

Gualtiero Bazzana from Italy is the new president of ISTQB®

The General Assembly meeting of ISTQB® - the International Software Testing Qualifications Board - was held in Tel-Aviv, Israel on Thursday 26th of March 2015.
During this meeting, elections for the new Executive Committee for ISTQB® were conducted.

ISTQB® has chosen Mr. Gualtiero Bazzana, chairman of ITA-STQB – the Italian Testing Board and a respected figure in software testing internationally, to be its new elected President for 2015-2017.
Gualtiero Bazzana has been active in ISTQB® since 2007, acting as the Chair of the Marketing Working Group since 2011.

Alongside the election of a new President ISTQB® also:

  • re-elected the former ISTQB® President Mr. Yaron Tsubery from the Israeli Testing Certification Board (ITCB®) as Vice President
  • elected Mr. Kari Kakkonen from the Finnish Software Testing Board (FiSTB) as Treasurer
  • elected Mr. Geoff Thompson from the UK Testing Board (UKTB) as Secretary.
